abstract

this paper deals with an inspection of defects including corrosion and leakage by acoustic emission (ae) in an oil tank floor. in contrast to intrusive methods such as magnetic flux leakage, eddy current or ultrasonic, there is no need to emptying and entering the tank in ae method in order to inspection. in this research ae investigation and ae source location is presented in detail. the result of ae test in the studied oil tank verifies the presence of corrosion in some areas of the tank floor. after ae test, the tank emptied and inspected using ultrasonic thickness meter. the result of thickness measurement reconciles in an acceptable manner with ae test.

Application of the ultrasonic transmission tomography for inspection of the petroleum tank floor

The inspection of a storage tank floor is a time consuming and expensive procedure, mainly due to necessity to empty and to clean the tank before an inspection. For this purpose a long range ultrasonic technique based on Lamb waves may be applied. Such an approach is used for inspection of pipes and can cover the distances up 100m. However the storage tanks are much more complicated structures ...

Inspection of Internal Tank Welds using the ACFM Inspection Method

This paper describes the application of the ACFM technique for weld inspection and focuses on recent experience in both Europe and Central America in the use of the technique for the inspection of steel storage tanks. Inspection of the tank floor is usually conducted using magnetic flux leakage methods but it is recognised that this cannot be applied to the detection of cracking in the welds jo...

role of oil storage tank structure in the prevention emission of hydrocarbon pollution

during recent years oil products has decreased because of growing population and increasing demand to oil products and decreasing of crude oil extraction at compare to export. however, to achieve suitable levels of production, the use of improved technologies should be considered. another way to prevent the evaporation and leakage from oil storage tanks and their products are using of storage t...

Underwater acoustic tank evaluation of acoustic properties of samples using spectrally dense signals

This papa deals with exploring the availability and reliability of subtraction techniques, based on spectrally dense signals such as Maximan Length Sequences, in evaluating the echo reduction losses of samples of interest in undawater acoustics. These techniques, first employed in air acoustics, were adapted to the undawater environment. Experimental results how how a measurement can be accompl...

A Novel Design of Aircraft Fuel Tank Inspection Robot

Aircraft fuel tank leakage is a very common maintenance problem. A continuum robot is designed for troubleshooting of leaks for fuel tank which has strong constraints and is also explosive. The biomimetic robot with several flexible sections applies actuation redundancy through pulling its four independent driving cables to realize bending motion of two degrees of freedom (DOF). The forward kin...
